That's all one thing though, "data collection".
FACEIT ANTI CHEAT ALREADY RUNNING INSTALL
We all hear it all the time about "Be careful about the apps you install on your smartphone, make sure you check the permissions as you install it", and there's many news articles about data collection from Facebook, Instagram, Google, blahblahblah.
FACEIT ANTI CHEAT ALREADY RUNNING SOFTWARE
I don't mean it against FACEIT as an organisation or anything - I urge anyone to be careful with any software they install. Have you ever used the Google Voice Assistant stuff on your phone, then seen that it has kept a voice recording of every single time you used Google Voice Assistant (and sometimes it recorded you when you didn't expect it to, just because it "thought" it heard you say "OK Google") on your Google account? That's because GDPR forced Google to have to share this (as did Steam, where you can view all data that Steam collects from you, and pretty much all organisations were forced to do this to follow EU law). Though one idea - I wonder what you would get if you submitted a GDPR request for all of your collected data from FACEIT, as by EU law, they need to give you every bit of collected data that they have on you, or else they will be fined a pretty heavy fine. I mention Edward Snowden because, why should someone give FACEIT automatic trust? How do we know that the collected desktop screenshot data is not being looked at casually, or whether access to this data is tracked and audited? Maybe they are trustworthy, maybe not, I can't determine this. You can do this if you wish, but consider this: dodgy people exist, disgrunteled employees exist, creepy stalkery people exist, or just bored curious people exist (not specifically to FACEIT, but any organisation), I'm not American, just a security enthusiast, but Edward Snowden became a thing because he was sick and tired of seeing his fellow employees abuse their monitoring tools that they had within the NSA, and Edward shared information to the public about a culture that had formed within the NSA where employees were sharing weird shit they saw on their monitoring tools around their offices (keep in mind that the NSA were gathering photos and such that were being sent over the internet, so personal photos from all sorts of people in the public were being seen by faceless NSA staff. This means by installing the anti-cheat, you are putting your trust into the several faceless employees at FACEIT. Just to be clear, we do know that FACEIT have the ability to see our desktops.
FACEIT ANTI CHEAT ALREADY RUNNING PROFESSIONAL
I'm not against anti-cheat methods in general, but, whether it was developed by a professional company or not, the moment any software demands administrative permissions and the software itself is designed to send screenshots or video to whatever server, then this definitiely a huge security risk. Whether it was Valve, FACEIT, or any company that was implementing an anti-cheat, I specifically worry about the level of access that the anti-cheat requires. Call me paranoid, but I've followed general tech and IT stories for far too many years now that I just don't want to risk it. I love TF2 so much, but if Valve didn't change their mind and we were stuck with an intrusive anti-cheat, then genuinely I would shove TF2 into a VM if framerates were good enough (seemed kinda ok when I last checked in VM Workstation Player), or dual-boot specifically to play TF2. I'm not too sure why the CS:GO community didn't care about it (I'm not too aware of the CS:GO community), but believe me, if TF2 suddenly officially had implemented an anti-cheat like this, I'd definitely stand up against it. I was told that the CS:GO community already have a similar anti-cheat in place, yet they never caused a loud fuss over it.
FACEIT ANTI CHEAT ALREADY RUNNING PC
If you want to play on FACEIT servers and you literally only play games on your PC and do not login to personal social media websites and banking and stuff, then yeah the risk really doesn't matter for you, game on!! No need to read this post unless you are curious. Nothing against FACEIT personally, but this is more to do with computer security. Hey, just a casual player here, but I wanted to express some concerns about the FACEIT anticheat thing.
